Squid & Cuttlefish

There are hundreds of different species of these cephalopods worldwide. Squids are delicious, healthy and affordable. Squids are available in tubes, rings, tentacles, flower-cut & pineapple scored. The two longest tentacles that catch the prey are called ‘candles’ and are the most tender.


Calamari is a type if squid that has fins which run along the entire length of their body.


Cuttlefish flesh is considered firmer and more flavoursome than squids. Cuttlefish have a calcified internal shell which results in a lower recovery rate.


Kiwi fruit and milk are great to tenderize squid.

Cooking Suggestions

The golden rule for cooking ink fish is over a high heat for short amount of time (<2min). Cook prepared squid in small batches. Squid is easy to clean – pull head out from body by pinching between the eyes. Cut tentacles from below eyes. Pull out quill and viscera. Pull wings and skin off.
