A scaleless dark grey/brown fish with mottled green speckles and a white underside. Caught in 300-500m of water around New Zealand South Island and Chatham Rise.

Named after its distinctive upward facing eyes.

Terrific eating fish with pearly white flesh that is firm and succulent with a low oil content.

Sprinkle fillets with paprika, salt and pepper then drizzle with melted butter and top with some herb and garlic breadcrumbs and oven bake @180c for 15-18 minutes
